In His Absence, Louis Chenevert’s School of Thought Persists

Louis Chenevert left behind a unique culture when he vacated his role as Chief Executive Officer of United Technologies Corporation. While it is the responsibility of the highest executives within a corporation to complete goals associated with the short-term growth of the company, ensuring that the future of a company is secured is of equal importance.

Throughout his time at United Technologies Corporation, Louis Chenevert implemented within his protocol, ideas that were geared at repeatable goals and sustainability by both investing in the most avant-garde technologies, while also investing equally in the education of his employees. Mr. Chenevert was of the school of thought that suggested technology alone would not ensure longevity and prosperity, but by ensuring that his employees were given the education that would allow them to continuously implement new ideas and techniques, the company would be able to flourish for the foreseeable future.

This ideology allowed Louis Chenevert, as well as United Technologies Corporation, to rise to prominence at a time when the economy was experiencing a devastating recession that affected nearly every industry involved in the manufacturing of products. Today, in his absence, Gregory Hayes, the current Chief Executive Officer of United Technologies Corporation has continued to champion Mr. Chenevert’s system of thinking, and the company continues to grow on an exponential level.

Louis Chenevert received his education at HEC Montreal, a subsidiary of The University of Montreal, where he majored in production management. Over the course of Mr. Chenevert’s career, which has spanned several decades, he has worked for several major corporations, garnering a reputation for success at every stop that he made. After working for General Motors for over a decade, Louis Chenevert joined Pratt & Whitney, where he would come across an idea for a new plane engine. This plane engine would eventually be developed into the GTF after Mr. Chenevert ascended to the position of Chief Executive Officer with United Technologies Corporation. He is no stranger to acclaim and recognition and in 2011, for his many successes, he received an honorary doctorate degree from HEC Montreal and he was also presented with the Honor Award by the National Building Museum.
